THE DEAD

Posted by Jimmy Blue Eyes on October 10, 2011 at 6:35 PM

Greetings my shambling shuffling friends!

My rotting dust scratched eyes were able to lock them selves on a prey I have waited for two years to see. The DEAD directed by the Ford brothers.

I sat inraptured, allowing my eyes to feast upon the visuals of this beautifully made movie. After all the zom "B" movies I have seen over the last year, The DEAD was a much needed change of pace to see such a professional piece of filmography.

Based in Africa, this is the story of the lone survivor of the last flight out of the zombie infested continent. Crashing off the coast because there was not enough time to finish prepping the plane before the airstrip was completely over run. The lone survivor makes his way across the parched and barren landscape, meeting up with another survivor who is looking for his son, trying to stay alive, while searching for a safe haven.

The Dead was able to keep the tension steady throughout the film, everytime they have to stop for repairs, or water, or rest, the dead are always steadily approaching, slowly walking out of the brush in the background, hardly giving them time to catch their breath.

Time for the G.R.E.A.T. zombie movie score!

G-ore: the makeup was amazing, the gore was fantastic, the flesh eating and ripping rocked, and the way the broken leg of the zombie in the very beginning was cracking and popping as he walked was proof of attention to detail...10

R-ealism: very realistic, there was no discussion of the start and casue of the plague so there was just the element of survival, something people would have to face in the event of economic and societal collapse. 8.0

E-ntertainment: this movie left me spell bound, the attention to detail, the story, the landscapes, the background music, all combined to leave me in a trance, unable to look away. 9.0

A-cting: was awesome, the contrasts between the too main characters, and the circumstances that brought them together kept the movie flowing forward. 8.0

T-hrills: YES YES YES, even when you knew the scene was setting up for a scare, the scare still got ya, the ford brothers know how to direct and I hope to see a future zombie movie from them one day. 9.0

The overall combined G.R.E.A.T. Score averages out to 8.8 out of 10 possible, and The Dead totally deserves it!

I look forward to watching this movie many more times in the future!

But here is my parting question, will the rest of the world survive a quarantined zombie africa, or will the plague spread beyond the dark continent?

You will have to watch THE DEAD to find out.

Thanks for reading, and until my next post, I will be shuffling along with the lost.
