So what did you guys think?

Personally I liked it.There was a nod to the comic with Merle getting his hand chopped off (like Rick) and the beheading of the deer eating zombie by Dale.

My only gripe is Carol.NOTHING like her comic counterpart in terms of looks, but guess she fits with her manerisms and overall mood.

Great episode set at a nice pace, getting to know the characters better. I also loved the look on Shane and Lori ' s face when they saw Rick for the first time classic. Finally awesome cliffhanger at the end.

I didnt think Lori was showing that emotion when she saw him tbh.If she was that much of an emotionless robot before the outbreak,Im not suprised they were having marital problems!

Rick and Carls reunion brought a tear to my eye!

Lori and Shane had that look of seeing a Ghost mixed with Deer in Headlights.  I mean they did just pound one out a few hours prior.  Speaking of which, Lori must be one horny woman to sleep with Shane and Rick in few hours time.

The scene with Carl and Rick was exactly out of the comic.  The look on Carl's face was almost exactly the same as the comic.

So there are three characters I want dead soon; Merle, Daryl, and Ed.  How is it this much scum could have survived.

So I'm guessing that Alan, Donna, and the twins were replaced by Rodriguez and his family.

As a Hero I used to fight on the side for good. I learned it's boring. Being a villainous hero is much more fun!

Shane is a real mega prick for lying to Lori about Rick "Dying".

Jon Bernthal is playing him perfectly. I hated him after just 2 lines in the first episode.

I can't wait to see that bullet go through his neck!

I'm definitely in agreement on the Carol front. It's just strange to me when they seem to have tried so hard to get matches for the rest of the cast and then Carol looks so wildly different.

The addition of her husband definitely makes things interesting though. Allows us to get a better understanding of why she acts the way she does and why her relationships with people are so intense.

I can't really picture Tyreese, whenever he appears, going for a relationship with her though so I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I do not think Shane is a prick for lying to Lori about Rick dying.

FIrst of all, any sane person would think that someone in a coma in a hospital that was overrun by zombies would be dead. At first they thought that RIck would be transported out by Helicopter, but clearly shit went to hell quickly . You would not want to give her false hope that Rick was alive, it would drive her insane or even make her want to go back to "save" him. What Shane did was reasonable.

In a situation like that I can see people finding comfort in what they perceive as normal. They knew each other before the outbreak, their closeness might be a memory of things before it went to shit. The situation is too crazy to think rationally about. It is not like his best friend was killed in a shoot out and he was banging her a month after the funeral. The whole world has gone to hell, pretty much everyone you knew is dead, and possibly trying to eat  you. I think he has done nothing wrong so far. Regular rules do not apply.

Haha!  It was more like she just laid there and let Shane and Rick screw her... granted, she undid Shane's belt, but in both scenes she didn't really seem that much into it (might just be a result of the actress rather than the writing though).  It's like she's just a passionless cum dumpster or something... and while Shane flipped her around and had the back of her head to stare at, if I was Rick I think I would have noticed her face and the mood would have been ruined.

My first thought when she mentioned that Carl wouldn't wake up while they were getting busy with him sleeping a few short feet away was 'oh, and you know from experience, eh?'.  Not sure if that's what they were trying to imply, but that was my first thought anyways.

Interesting take on the Rodriguez family replacing Alan, Donna and kids.  Same numbers, right (husband, wife and two kids - if I counted correctly while they were all hugging)?  Alan always seemed pretty useless to me in the comics (though good for creating dramatic situations with his uselessness) - Morales at least can carry his weight from what we've seen so far.

I agree about the scene with Carl and Rick - it felt pretty spot on with the reunion in the comic.

That scene totally reminded me of Rick and Thomas in the prison.  I got the feeling that much of the driving force in Shane's head during the beat down was all the craziness of seeing Rick show up after thinking he was dead and watching himself be replaced as an important part of Lori and Carl's lives - like normally he would have punched Ed once or twice, just enough to pacify him, but with all the conflicting emotions he's feeling he just raged and beat him almost to death.

I thought the same thing when they introduced Ed as Carol's husband.  In the comics she made a few references to her abusive husband, and they gave us the impression that she's so messed up in the head as a result of some of that trauma of a troubled life - but getting to see the bastard in action rather than just hear about it as backstory is pretty cool, I think.

I thought Merle was awesome in this episode.  The acting I thought was superb - really believable with his delirium.  Bravo Rooker, bravo.

It also gave some insight into how dangerous his character is - when he was talking about how his punishment for knocking some guy's teeth out was hellish, but perfectly worth it just to see the guy's expression when he did it.  We see he's probably not going to let any threat of punishment deter him from getting what he perceives as his due justice - so woe to T-Dog and Rick when/if they track him down.

One thing I was disappointed about was at the campfire in camp.  I had seen the spoiler pics they posted earlier in the week about the episode, and I thought for sure that (the ones of people around the campfire) was going to be where they tell their stories about how they got there/what they were doing when things really got bad.

I hope they still do that in one of the upcoming episodes.  When Jim told his story in the comic was one of my favorite parts in the first trade collection - I really want to see it on screen.

If you watch the sneak peek of next weeks episode, you see Jim is going a lil stir crazy and ends up blubbing about how they ate his family and pulled them away from him.

As for Donna,Allen and the twins,I too am rather pissed off that they aint in this series.Apparently Kirkman has confirmed that they will be in series 2.

Still peeved that Carol looks like a dyke.....

Oh sweet - I haven't seen any sneak peaks for the next episode yet, but that makes me happy if Jim will tell his story next episode.  I liked the way he went out in the comics, and hope it plays out in the TV series the same way.

Also, I'd be ok with Allen's fam showing up in season 2 - as long as they carry over some of the more dramatic parts that family goes through (Donna being a judgmental bitch at first, then right as she warms up and you start think she's alright, shit hits the fan in Wiltshire Estates - Allen's subsequent breakdown and the incredible end of the twins).

lol about the way Carol looks.  It is a pretty weird (and unnecessary) change from the comics.  It just feels like they went the easy way out on that family - making them trailer trash as an easy explanation for how fucked up they are.  I'm still happy they're showing us her husband though, that much about Carol's fam from comics to TV I think is a cool change.
