the ending was epic----

'YOUR KILLING US!!''

*cchhhhhhshhhhh* (spaceship style, all characters bathed in the light of the CDC, that was very artistic)

did I mention it was epic?

This was my Favorite Episode to date!  Loved it.. Seeing the finale episode at the end didn't sit right with me.. I am a little worried about the next episode..  But what a great episode this was, amy the zombie and her sister taking her out, jim oh poor jim, Dale finding out about shane.. ( makes me think Dale and not Carl!!  if you know what I mean)  I did enjoy this one a lot..

I couldn't bare the thought at all of having to wait till October for season 2, its already torture having to wait every month for a new comic, that is until I saw this episode.  This episode let me down big time.  I am completely understanding of the director changing events for the series from the book, but going this way?  I didn't like the angle they were using when they found Eugene in the books and he said they needed to go to Washington so he could work on a cure.  Just to showy and unrealistic, which is why the comic is so awesome, because it's so real.  The show basically is taking the Eugene idea seriously and I'm assuming trying to connect to the rest of the world who don't read the comic and keep them interested with crappy plot twists.  The season finale better be UN-BELIEVABLE or I'm going to be completely turned off from the show.  And it has been SO good so far too...

I can't believe how graphic it was when Carol was going at Ed's head. Sweet jesus.

Yeah, I didnt really care for the CDC part. Carol bashing Ed's head in was nice. The scene with amy and Andrea was heart felt, and i do feel guilty for thinking amy was still hot as a zombie. I must be going off the deep end. I definitely liked the scene where Dale reacts to Shane having Rick in his sights.

However the scenes for the finale also have me worried. This CDC addition seems way too far off the path. Its seems as each episode aired, the pace has increased, almost as if skipping frames (if that makes any sense). The pacing was fine in this episode until the CDC, then it seemed so out of place... Hmm I dont know, Im tired.

My favorite so far too, I am ok with the CDC. I like that its not the same, but kirkman always said he would never say if it was global or not? and this jerk said the whole world had it,, so looks global.

The entire episode was fantastic, do I have to mention carol, jim shane all that shit   GREAT!!.

The  CDC was awkward. If they took out the global talk and the microscope crap it would fit as the new material.

Great way to show off Andrew Lincoln's acting ability and to show that rick is still human for now.

ALIEN'S! only in issue 75 was that allowed.

Showing the cast bathed in the light of the cdc was ok but to me it felt like they filmed it like 20 times and said " The shark still looks fake, just use that cut".

lets see what happens next.

Do you guys think they will have the dvd ready for christmas?

Amc has an army working on this show. I bet theve been printing copies since september.

Horrible episode. Worst one to date.

1. Pacing, anyone? All it did was jump from one random scene to the next, never spending the time to build upon any individual sequence. It covered so much ground that the end result lacks substance, and I was left feeling like nothing had any true weight behind it. I doubt most casual viewers will remember half the things that happened in this episode by next week. Look at the comic, for instance. Kirkman has to accomplish a lot within a limited space. The dialogue always has meaning behind it; no word is wasted. Every panel (scene) adds something either to the characters or the story and individual happenings seem to tie together. Every issue expands upon the narrative as a whole while also serving as a story in itself, leaving you wanting more, yet providing a bit of satisfaction. These elements should apply to a television episode as well, but they failed on all counts with "Wildfire".

Kirkman proved that he could pull off this formula on film with episode four, so what gives? Let's compare the plot points of the two:

Episode 4:

Amy and Andrea fish and bond.

Jim digs holes, what do we do?

The Search for Merle

Get the guns

Rescue Glenn from the bad guys

Bad guys weren't so bad, let's help them

The truck is gone, we gotta hurry

Zombie ambush

Amy and co. are dead, good thing we got holes

Episode 5:

Try to reach Morgan

Head check and burn the bodies

You can't burn our dead, bury them instead

Andrea won't leave Amy's side, what do we do?

Amy comes back to life and Andrea kills her

Carol goes to town on huzband

Jim was bitten, what do we do?

We can't stay here, what do we do?

Shane puts Rick in his sights, Dale witnesses

Let's go to CDC, Morales and Co. parts ways

Let's leave Jim on the way

Hi! I'm the only one at the CDC, also my samples caught fire and now I wanna die.

"Let us in!", "...okay."

The difference: Episode four kept things simple with two main storylines that all came together in the end. Every scene was given enough time to develop and flesh out the plot. Episode five, however, didn't truly have its' own plot at all. It was just a bunch of random things that happened.

2. Bad dialogue/writing. None of the actors seemed very interested or convincing in this episode with the exception of Lincoln at the very end, but I attribute that to the bad writing.

a. In the comic, Andrea shoots Amy as soon as she dies. For some reason the tv writers thought that it would be more realistic for Andrea to want to see her baby sister transformed into a flesh-eating monster. Also, Andrea's reaction to her death in episode four seemed so genuine. "I don't know what to do. Oh... oh... etc." Yet in episode five we get the stupid, generic blabbering we all expect out of a tv show. And later we see an image of Andrea looking quite distraught over leaving Jim behind as if she'd have anything else on her mind other than her dead sister. Wouldn't it have been much more realistic to have Andrea put her sister down without saying another word, perhaps even until next season?

b. Amy took waaaaay too long to reanimate. From dusk to mid-morning? In the comic, Jim said that his boss died and came back as a zombie within a matter of hours after being bitten and nobody ever lasts more than a day. Also, Tyreese's daughter came back within minutes of death, and she wasn't even bitten. At the rate in which Amy took to return to life, it seems like the zombie epedemic would have been highly containable. I always assumed that people usually reanimated during the process of being eaten, which explains why they aren't fully consumed and how it spread so quickly.

c. Jim is a complete spaz in this episode. It's sad, because I really liked the comic version of Jim. He was very laid back, never tried to hide being bitten, and fully excepted his fate from the start. I was looking forward to "it's just a scratch." They made the tv Jim very unlikable by causing him to "fight" back.

d. Going back into the city and taking everyone along was a STUPID idea. Does anyone else find it strange that Rick is the dumb one who keeps making mistakes, and Shane is the better leader making the better decisions? In the comic, it is the opposite, as it should be. You are supposed to relate to Rick because he is the MAIN CHARACTER. In the show, I feel as though Shane had every right to pull that trigger. Rick is compromising the lives of everyone in the group with his foolishness, and Shane is the one with the common sense. Going to make it pretty complicated if they end of following the comic at all after this point.

e. The CDC, really? I'm not even going to discuss this idiocy of this plotline because it would take too long.

--This episode was the definition of filler. It merely serves to fill the gap between two events that actually matter: the camp ambush and whatever happens in the finale. I don't know, I just got really excited after the fourth episode, and now it feels like the show's going to be crap. Sorry to rant.

I really didnt like this CDC doctor idea, seems like its just been added for the non comic reding public which want answers for everything.Lame.Not knowing how fast it spread, wether its worldwide, what caused it etc is part of the books charm and what makes it totally different from any other zombie media. That and its ongoing.

Jim was ok this episode, why not bit on the arm though?

Amy took way to long to turn.

Nice touch they added with Dale and Shane.

Im guessing Morales and family are now zombie chow;)

Mmm.....zombie tacos!

I was ok with the whole CDC thing as long as they don't find a cure as that would ultimately alter the entire comic book story.  However, I don't want this to become a Lost situation with a button and living in a lab (same actor who played the original button pusher).

SPOILERS FOR SEASON FINALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shane better die in this next episode, though I don't think Carl will be the one to do it.

As a Hero I used to fight on the side for good. I learned it's boring. Being a villainous hero is much more fun!

The CDC doesn't really bother me cause i don't htink it is going to amount to much...i think they will be out of there before the season is over. I have no idea what is going to happen in the season finale...maybe shane and rick will fight and then when everything goes to shit he will see an opportunity to try and kill rick ...i don't know who will kill shane but if its not carl then they will really mess up this story. because that is such a pivotal moment for carls character....it really shapes his character for his future.

to hell with the cdc!

i was sure that the season would end 20 seconds after ricks son blows away shane!  give me a fucking break....the zombie rv scene leads to target practice and all carrying guns, followed by rick and shane's argument....followed by shanes death...

i could care less what they trew in for filler, but now i dont see it...please tell me AMC did not get nervous and prevent that scene....SHEESH!

maybe anti-gun progressive liberals did not want a boy using a gun correctly to protect his daddy from a bad man with a gun......

TOTALLY MAD it does not seem to be going that way.....knew there would be changes...but for pete's sake....thats one of the most iconic scenes...........

i bet next they wont have ricks wife and baby getting blown away! damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three things I loved about the episode:

1.  Jim's death scene-lifted straight from the comic--I always felt this to be a powerful scene and the adaptation did not disappoint.

2.  The mass exodus from the camp.  I loved Mccreary's musical score that accompanied the scene.   We need more usage of his grand music in my humble opinion.

3.   Rick's emotion when the cdc doors wouldn't open.  "You're killing us".  Very intense and raw scene.  I loved seeing Rick out of control even though he was right... until next week it looks like.:)

Another fine episode.

You didn't rant Centerhead. I agree with everything you said.

Everyone on this site knows how much I am a fan of the Comic. I don't have to show my credentials.

I hate saying this but, My enthusiasm for this show dies with each episode. The series moves forward and in my opinion It gasped it's last breath with last nights "Wildfire".

To add to Centerhead remakes, I will only talk about the CDC part of the episode.

1) There's only ONE person left at the CDC? Really? After only 194 days after Wildfire is declared, only one scientist is trying to find a cure. Did a 10th grader write this? I'm sure if you did a little research you can find what the CDC would do during a major outbreak. I'm sure there is enough food, weapons, etc. to last for months, if not years. The place would by shut down completely. No one goes in and No one go's out. Period.  There would be a deicated staff that would stay to figure out what's going on. You know how I know this? Because that's their f*cking job! They're not fry cooks who would up a leave at the first sign of trouble. These people are dedicated in stopping outbreaks. Very unrealistic. The"last man standing" thing would be believable if a year or 2 had gone by.

2) The microscope scene was the last/ final straw for me. By showing dark blood cells invading a healthy blood cell, You are telling the audience that this is a viral outbreak. They broke Kirkman's number one rule: WE NEVER LEARN HOW OR WHAT STARTED THE OUTBREAK!

That little bit of mystery that makes the comic so enjoyable is now gone! I love that anyone can come along and have a theory about what started the outbreak. Was it a virus? Was it man made? Natural? God's wrath? Etc. That info is kept from the reader so beautifully by Robert. He's been doing it for 79 issues! 7 years! TV comes along and kills this in 5 episodes!

I don't have any interest in seeing what happens next with "TV Rick and the gang". This show is now just a dumbed down version of the comic. I'll stick to the book with it's superior dialogue, story lines and most importantly characters that I care about.

I agree also stumpy, The way I have to look at this now is its just a different beast all together and I just don't associate the two anymore. I definitely love the comic much more but love the throwbacks to it in the show, I believe if we can keep these in our minds as two separate entities then were good. Don't bail yet!!!
