I've been watching The Walking Dead repeats and when I thought of Merle cutting his hand off, it instantly became clear to me that Merle will become The Governour.

My resons for this:

He cuts off his hand - In the book Rick gets his right hand cut off by The Governour (Mixing both worlds would probably result in Rick having his hand cut off in the TV series as revenge for Merle loosing his hand)

Merle obviously thinks of himself as a natural leader, as does the Governour

He's racist - The Governour rapes Michonne - She is black. (No rasicm intended)

And other things, such as, their both dick heads. I would write more, but I can't really think in much depth right now.

Perhaps I'm over thinking it, but that's the way I see it (:

I really hope not so... The governour is much more crazy, i dont know, merle dixons character doesnt really fit in. Hes just some kind of retard racist, not enough depth for the governour. In my opinnion the TV series is allready to far away from the comics. I really hated the fucking C.D.C idea... All in all episode 1 was awesome, 2 was great and than it dropped

 there will be an episode of season 2 almost entirely divoted to Merle dixon... it will show him re appearing, , and then it will flash back and show the carnage and pain as he cuts off his own hand, struggles across the roof, down into the building, killing the two zombies, carterizing his hand with that heated flat iron, breaking out the window, and heading down the fire escape, ....

he is able to leave the building because the commotion with the red car and its car alarm draws the dead away from the building, as the others are escaping.....(both stories will intertwine this way)

 I would not be surprised if once he got to the ground in a weakened condition, he happens to look over, and being on the same side of the building where he was handcuffed, notices his drugs laying on the ground from where rick grimes dropped them.......and taking a nice big snort, goes from looking weak and sick from his injuries, to standing tall, puffing out his chest, and then slowly looks up at the camera with a crazed and powerful look in his eyes......

 he will become inserted into the story line again, during some emergency situation that the group is facing, saving the day....and he and his brother becomes a force to reckon with, (but his brother is not quite a bad guy just hard to handle)

 i also see a scene where his brother shows him his hand, telling him that they came back for him, (how merle will handle knowing that if he had stayed put, he would still be able to play guitar ...)

I do wonder though.....if maybe merle will go all bruce campbell evil dead and affix a weapon to his stump???

Frank said at a convention that Merle is not the Governor, stating that it would be too predictible. I breathed a heavy sigh of relief when he did (mostly because, this idea had occured to me too, and I didn't think he looked anything like the governor - I'd rather he be played by someone like Robert Knepper. As much as I like Michael Rooker I just couldn't see him in that role)

Also, from a logistics point of view, this would mean that Merle not only has to get ahead of the group (whatever path they might take, which as far as he knows, is random) but he'd have to organize and set up Woodbury (which appeared to have been established shortly after the outbreak), find and tame a zombie 'daughter', and earn the respect and admiration of the entire population of the little town, all before our heroes get there. I for one, can't see that as even remotely plausible. Someone else builds/rules Woodbury, and it already exists somewhere *right now*. Otherwise the whole storyline would make no sense (and the idea of Merle Dixon being kind enough to anyone to earn their loyalty seems impossible)

I heard Darabont or Kirkman say that Merle won't be the governor as well. Which is good with me. I think that Merle will make for a great bad guy in his own right, and I think that the governor luring in the gang with that false sense of security is a really big part of what made him such a cool character, and obviously at this point, it would be really tough to re-create that with Merle.

Haha, I think it's safe to say I've been proven wrong!

Looking at it now Merle would be awful for the Governour, although I stand by the correlation between them.

Also, does anybody have a video of the interview(s) where Kirkman/Darabont say that Merle isn't going to be the Governour? (:

yeah im pretty sure if that had turned out to be the case i would have fucking quit the show ....just saying.

HOWEVER....

While he may not be The Govorner, I would love it if when the group gets to Woodbury they find Merle in the town, all steeped in revenge fantasies  that would be kinda cool...

or merle already be at the farm in season two

I'll give you my feedback, for what it's worth.

likes: This girl's got the moves (no question about it). The acting is perhaps above average.  I'm not watching the scene (taken from the comic) and thining, "IT'S SO HER!!".

dislikes: I'm asking myself; is she right for tv? TV typically puts on people who are a lil too thin for their own good (amy and her sister...who's name escapes me + Lori).  They're all skinny little nothings.  In my opinion, this girl might have just a little too much extra (though it may be the outfit making it look that way).

I'd give her a 7/10

This girl can certainly kick butt! But does she look the part?

I agree, iammichoonne you should creat your own topic instead of droping them in unrelated threads and maybe tell us about yourself we have good and friendly peeps here,  I will look at this later and give my thoughts.

I personally think that merle's severed hand should play the role of THING in the stop motion 3d tim burton directed ADDAMS FAMILY coming out in the next two years, but i am not going through every one of their posts , posting "Merle's severed hand is thing.com" 

geez another Addams Family movie? really? can't we just get anything new for once?

this addams family  will be black and white,  stop motion, and will be true to the original comics that showed in the new yorker,  so i am interested.
