Stephen King in talks to write for Season 2 of The Walking Dead

March 19th, 2011 9:24 pm MT

At the C2E2 comic and entertainment expo in Chicago today, March 19, 2011, during The Walking Dead panel, actress Laurie Holden, who plays Andrea on the series, announced that none other than legendary horror writer Stephen King is in talks to write an episode in the second season of The Walking Dead.

Frank Darabont, executive producer of the show, has worked with King several times in the past, including the films The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist.

In other The Walking Dead news, Holden also hinted that breakout characters from the comic book series Tyreese, Michonne, and The Governor will also be putting in appearances to some degree.

Locally, The Walking Dead airs on the AMC cable network, channel 57 in the Longmont area and Denver metro area.

You can also find plenty of Stephen King (who?) books at the Boulder Book Store at 1107 Pearl Street in Boulder.

Update to this story: In the time it took me to write this article, Stephen King completed a 15,000 word treatment for his script, a new novella for Esquire magazine, and cooked a 12 pound roast goose with homemade gravy.

I'm psyched about this. I'm a big Dark Tower fan, both the novels and comics (Peter David's the shit, BTW)

what'd you think of it?  i thought it was great all around, but if someone had told me Pennywise was gonna make an appearance, i woulda flown through the first 2 stories.

and what was the King X Files ep?  i don't remember it.  gonna have to watch it. (all seasons streamed on Netflix right now!!)

I got Full Dark for X-mas, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I had an urge to re-read 1984 and Slaugherhouse 5 first, so I'm curious as well.

Damn, now I want to re-read the DT books.....

Very cool news. 8) I heard he would be directing too. Anyone know anything about this ?

@Darby I really liked it, it was very dark and creepy. I could really see 'Big Driver' as a movie...I'd even cast it myself while I was reading :P (OMG I missed Pennywise? Which story was that from? I'll have to reread! Unless it was that 'Extender' guy...)

Stephen King wrote the Season 5 X-File's episode 'Chinga' (the one with the evil doll, of which Mulder asks 'you mean like Chucky?' :D)

@deadmike It *was* a really good book :D I also LOVED Bag of Bones (I know, it got mixed reviews) and I seem to love his short stories (bachman books, four past midnight, the girl who loved tom gordon...) over the longer ones. I still have Under the Dome sitting on my shelf that I have to read...anyone here read it yet who can tell me about it?

yes, it was Elvid, or at least my interpretation of him.  lots of sharp teeth, looked like a clown without make-up, and occurred in Derry.

Under the Dome was a fun read.  very long, but worth it.  you'll find some issues with it, but still be glad you read it.  don't fear the size, it's still a fast read.  think "The Stand" + "The Tommyknockers."

YEAHHHHH :D (Hmm, mayhaps I'll have to dust off The Dome then...I did really like The Stand...) And it never occured to me that Elvid was Pennywise, but now that you say it, it makes total sense! Yayy for cameos in your own works ^^;

Melly ,  I thought Under The Dome was great. A return to old school Stephen King. Best novel he's written in a while. Be sure to let me know what you think.
